Glanmire Supporting Kenya Water Project For the past eight years, the Rotary Club of Glanmire and District has been supporting the Poor Sisters of the Mother of God (SMG) of Carrigtwohill, at their mission in Kitue, Kenya. The club donated approximately 1,300 euro per annum, a sum which was worth about tenfold in Kenya. Over a year ago, the sisters advised that they were building a home for homeless boys in Mwingi, Kenya and hoped that Glanmire Rotary would be able to provide additional support towards building storage facilities for rainwater. On Thursday 10 January Sr. Mary Dunlea (from Knockraha) attended the club at their weekly meeting at Fitzgerald's Vienna Woods Hotel, She spoke about the project and brought photographs of it under construction. Dave Reidy, Past President of Glanmire Rotary and Project Co-ordinator, presented Sr. Mary with a cheque for 5,000 euro on behalf of the members of the club and supporters of the project. Efforts have been made over the years both from within the club and by district, to try and co-ordinate support of the SMG in Kitue through a Rotary club in Kenya (eMail's were not even replied to), unfortunately Glanmire Rotary were unable to qualify for matching grants and get osupport formalised within Rotary Foundation.
